What is the Connecticut Partnership for Long-Term Care?
The Connecticut Partnership for Long-Term Care is a program of the State of Connecticut that works in alliance with the private insurance industry. It is a joint effort by State government and private industry to create an option to help you plan your future long-term care needs without depleting all of your assets to pay for care. Under the Connecticut Partnership, private insurance companies competitively sell special long -term care insurance policies. These policies not only provide benefits to pay for long-term care costs, they also offer Medicaid Asset Protection should you ever need to apply to Connecticuts Medicaid program for assistance.
Under this provision, you and family members who participate will be extended a significant guarantee by the State. If benefits provided by the policy are exhausted, the State guarantees that you can apply for Medicaid and keep personal assets equal to the benefits paid by your policy.
Because of the Medicaid Asset Protection provision, you need only obtain an amount of insurance equal to the assets that need to be protected. A policy that is depleted after one of two years may be sufficient to protect a desired asset level rather than buying a larger amount of conventional insurance, which will be more expensive. This may be a more affordable solution for many people.
